Use of Petrolatum-containing products with latex gloves

In 1991 the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) ruled that employees in health care and public safety who wear latex gloves shall not apply petroleum-based skin-care products, such as those containing mineral oil. “Significant deterioration of latex gloves was noted when exposed to petroleum-based lubricants” (See 56 Federal Register 64119, December 6, 1991). Also see 29 CFR 1910.1030,“Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.”
