Your skin changes inevitably as the years pass. It is the natural order of things that matter decays. Skin is
not immune to this law. Collagen and elastin production slow down 65% between the ages of 20 and 80. The thickness of the skin decreases by 6% every 10 years. There are two types of aging: intrinsic and actinic. Ten percent (10%) of the visible signs of aging are due to Mother Nature and Father Time. Many of these “intrinsic” aging factors are hereditary. An important factor in intrinsic aging is the loss of bone mass. As bones shrink away from the skin, the skin retains its size and shape. This leaves the skin slightly bigger than the underlying bones, resulting in loose folds of skin and thick wrinkles. In general, the darker the skin, the less visible aging will take place. Thicker skin does not show aging as fast as thinner, more fragile skin. Ninety percent (90%) of the visible signs of aging are due to sun exposure and exposure to the environment. This is called actinic aging. This produces wrinkling, sagging, discoloration, unsightly pigmented spots, thin skin, spider veins, and lack of color. All of this is avoidable.
