Dr. Lee’s Osteoporosis Treatment Program

Adapted from the book by John R. Lee, M.D. titled What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause):

Low-protein diet emphasizing leafy greens, legumes, and whole grains

No sodas

No cigarettes

Limited alcohol

Vitamin D, 350 to 400 IU daily

Vitamin C, 2000 mg a day in divided doses

Beta-carotene, 15 mg daily

Vitamin B6, 50 mg daily

Zinc, 15 to 30 mg daily

Magnesium, 300 to 500 mg daily

Calcium, 800 to 1,000 mg daily, mostly through diet

Natural Progesterone, ¼ tsp. (20 mg) – Cream applied at bedtime daily (two to three weeks out of the month depending on stage in life = one to two ounces a month)

Estrogen, often not needed but may take estriol for three weeks a month

Exercise, 20 minutes daily or 30 minutes three times a week
