From the Texas Farm Bureau come these statistics:

Today, each U.S. farmer produces food and fiber for 129 people.

American farmers produce 16 percent of the world’s food on just seven percent of the world’s land.

Agriculture is the nation’s largest employer, with more than 21 million people involved in some phase.

Food is most affordable in the U.S., where consumers spend less than 10 percent of their income.

[In Texas] An acre of land, which is roughly the size of a football field, can produce Texas crops in the following quantities: 1,328 lbs. cotton, 14,0o0 lbs. corn, or 28,800 lbs. oranges.
