Farm Facts

According to the Texas Farm Bureau, each U.S. farmer produces food and fiber for 129 people. American farmers produce 16 percent of the world’s food on just seven percent of the world’s land. Agriculture is our nation’s largest employer, with more than 21 million people involved in some phase of it. Food is most affordable in the U.S., where consumers spend less than ten percent of their income on it. An acre of land, which is roughly the size of a football field, can produce Texas crops in the following quantities: 1,328 lbs cotton, 14,000 lbs corn, or 28,800 lbs oranges.
