Consequences of Low Health Literacy

“Health information literacy, or the ability to understand basic health information, has an important impact on health. Patients of lower socioeconomic status, or racial and ethnic minorities, are disproportionately affected by low health literacy. Raising awareness about health literacy and strategizing to improve communication is an important step in addressing health disparities.”
